Two former TikTok employees have created Superpose, an iOS app that uses artificial intelligence to suggest poses for your selfies. The app, which has been downloaded over 22,000 times since its launch in July, generates four potential poses using AI, and even lets users save their favourites.

Co-founder Melody Chu, who previously worked at companies like Meta and TikTok, says the app was born from her frustration with her husband's photography skills. 'My husband just takes awful photos of me,' she told TechCrunch, 'and I thought to myself, there has to be a way to solve this problem with advancements in computer vision and generative AI.'

Superpose offers users five free pose generations daily, with the option to buy a pack of five for $2.99 or 20 for $9.99. Chu is keen to focus on helping users capture real-life moments, rather than fantastical ones. 'We really wanna focus on actually capturing the lived moment and experience,' she said.

The app has raised $2.2 million from investors including Khosla Ventures, Meitu and OVTR VC. With its growing user base and funding, Superpose may be just the beginning of AI's role in perfecting our poses and improving our photography skills.
