Cap table management platform Pulley is folding its tent after just three years, partnering with rival Carta to ease the transition for its users. Founder Yin Wu, a former Microsoft employee, took to LinkedIn to thank her team and backers, stating, “though this is the closing of one chapter, I, along with many of our strongest team members, have no intention of riding off quietly into the night.”
The shutdown may be due to Pulley’s failure to compete with more user-friendly tools, particularly AI-driven spreadsheet management systems. Wu started building Pulley in 2020 and secured over $50 million from top investors, including General Catalyst, Stripe, and Founders Fund. Despite this, the platform couldn’t keep pace with the evolving needs of startups.
Carta, which Pulley is partnering with, offers a more comprehensive suite of services, making it a logical choice for the platform's customer base. In a twist, Pulley is redirecting prospective clients to Carta, effectively leaving the market to a more established player.
Wu’s statement on LinkedIn reads: “There has never been a better time to solve big problems,” reflecting her commitment to innovation and her belief in the future of tech-driven solutions. Whether Pulley’s exit signals a broader shift in the tech landscape remains to be seen, but for now, startups will likely continue to explore the latest tools to streamline their operations.
Despite the closure, Pulley’s legacy lives on, serving as a reminder that in the tech world, innovation must keep pace with the ever-evolving landscape.
