Smart home owners can now delegate tasks to their AI agents through Google Home devices, thanks to a new protocol called Model Context Protocol (MCP).

This update allows any AI agent that supports MCP to interact with Google Home devices, providing users with a more natural and intuitive way to control and monitor their smart home systems. Whether it's reviewing camera summaries or customising smart home dashboards, the possibilities are endless.

To set up the connection, users must create a Google Cloud project and configure it with Home MCP. They then provide the configuration details to their chosen agent and grant it access. Google is currently rolling out this feature to subscribers of Google Home Premium Advanced.
