Snap is launching Specs Intelligence, its new AI assistant that connects your digital accounts to help with work tasks and travel information. Aimed at being an ‘anticipatory AI service’, it builds on personal context across devices and can surface relevant information before you need it.
The service is available for iOS in preview, with early access for Mac users via a waitlist. Specs Intelligence works by understanding your goals, priorities, and routines, and can highlight important tasks for meetings or trips. For users of Snap’s AR glasses, Specs can pull personal content and place it directly into view, like a daily briefing.
However, Snap faces challenges in gaining user trust, especially with access to data from connected services. The company reassures users that personal content won’t be used to train or fine-tune AI models or serve personalized ads. Time will tell if Specs Intelligence lives up to its promise of being a helpful assistant without being intrusive.
Specs Intelligence uses a proprietary combination of open-source models hosted in the US alongside local LLMs, with regular updates to refine its service. The full early-access experience for Mac is yet to be detailed, but Snap is confident in its vision for an AI that anticipates your needs before you do.
