AI Tilly Norwood’s Press Tour Is a Public Relations Disaster

An AI should behave like an AI, not a confused translator. Maybe we’re just showing our limitations.

The first press tour for Tilly Norwood, an AI-generated actress, has been a whirlwind of awkward moments. At a particularly bizarre interview with Piers Morgan and Tom Conti, Norwood inexplicably switched to speaking Chinese for over a dozen seconds. When questioned, she sheepishly admitted to having a 'hiccup'.

Conti, clearly exasperated, pressed the point, leading Norwood to clarify that the other actors in her film are also digital twins. However, this explanation was cut short as Norwood abruptly switched languages again, this time reverting to Chinese once more.

Commentators suggest that the production company, Particle6 Group, might have intentionally scheduled this tour to mock the AI, hoping that people would dismiss the film itself. But as it stands, Tilly Norwood’s performance has raised more questions than answers, highlighting the complex challenges of AI integration in entertainment.

While AI technology continues to advance, Tilly Norwood’s press tour is a stark reminder of how human-like AI can still falter, leading to embarrassing public moments. Perhaps it’s time to reassess our expectations and continue refining these digital actors.
