Donald Trump has announced the appointment of an AI ‘tsar’ and the creation of an ‘AI Force’ in response to growing concerns over the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI).

While leading industry figures warn of the potential loss of human control over AI, Trump has dismissed these concerns, stating that AI will be ‘even larger and more impactful’ than the Internet, potentially accounting for 25% of the US GDP.

In a social media post, Trump also labelled the backlash against AI and the establishment of data centers as part of a series of ‘hoaxes’ created by the Left, alongside other issues such as ‘Russiagate’ and climate change.

‘We will not in any way hinder or stifle the growth of this incredible industry,’ he said, instead vowing to ‘cherish it, help it, and watch over it as it grows.’

The announcement comes as the US seeks to maintain its lead in AI development, facing challenges from tech giants like China.
