Mecka AI, a startup that collects and analyzes human motion data to train humanoid robots and other kinds of robots, has announced a $60 million Series B round, led by Sequoia. This fund injection suggests the company is on the cusp of transforming the robotics industry, much like how data-labeling companies have revolutionized large language models.
Founded in 2024, Mecka is aiming to capture the same market that data-labeling giants, such as Scale AI, have mastered. By paying individuals to perform everyday tasks, like making coffee or fixing cars, while wearing body sensors and using smartphones, the company gathers the vast amounts of data necessary for training robots to mimic human actions.
Notably, this isn’t the only player in this space. XDOF, another startup, is also in the mix, with TechCrunch reporting it’s set to raise a $1.2 billion Series B round. Meanwhile, other data platforms like Scale AI and Micro1 are already expanding their services into robotics, showing that the tech world is increasingly looking to human data for innovation.
The valuation of Mecka AI suggests it has big ambitions. With Sequoia, Nvidia, and Microsoft’s M12 on board, the startup is well-funded to make its mark. But as it collects more data, could we be the next data point in a corporate valuation? Only time will tell.
