Microsoft Ditches Copilot Buttons in Windows 11

Is there really room for AI assistance in every app? Only time will tell.

Microsoft is trimming down the presence of Copilot buttons across several key apps, starting with Notepad and Snipping Tool. The removal is part of Microsoft's broader plan to streamline Windows 11 by reducing unnecessary user interfaces.

The Copilot feature itself remains intact in these apps, with AI-powered options still available via a new menu. Critics argue that such features might be overkill for simple text editing tasks, yet the move signifies a step towards a more minimalistic user experience.

Microsoft has pledged to complete this adjustment across various applications, hinting at future changes to laptop keyboards and other parts of Windows 11 where Copilot buttons have been recently added. Only time will tell if these changes will be universally well-received or seen as excessive.
