Figma has introduced a Markdown-based editor, Figma Specs, that allows teams to define their design language in a simple, documented manner. This tool can exist as a standalone file or within the canvas, providing a reference for teams and agents. It also enables the integration of design and code libraries, and the management of design guidelines, ensuring that agents adhere to a brand’s design rules.
Another innovative feature, code layers, adds coding to designs on the canvas, enabling more interactive prototypes. Figma is making this function available in public beta to allow more users to test it out. The company is also supporting over 20 new tools with its MCP, including Open Code, Dia, Grok Bot, and Sarvam.
During its first Config event in India, Figma announced its integration with Payload, a headless content management system, to help generate dynamic websites and manage content directly. The company has also opened its first office in India, which is its biggest market outside the US, with 40% of India’s top 100 companies listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange using Figma.
Through these new features, Figma aims to provide a more structured approach to design and development, making it easier for teams to collaborate and adhere to brand guidelines, despite the non-deterministic nature of AI.
