Apple cracks down on AI ‘nudify’ apps

Is tech regulation catching up with our digital fantasies, or is it just too late?

Apple's updated App Store rules explicitly ban apps that generate intimate images without consent, following criticism after X users created nonconsensual, sexualized deepfakes with Grok earlier this year.

Developers are now required to proactively remove nonconsensual, sexual images, and those who fail to comply could be removed from the App Store. Apple also clarified rules against 'bait-and-switch' apps, including those that add 'nudification' features after approval.

These changes come as part of a broader effort to combat content that facilitates human trafficking and the exploitation of children, ensuring a safer platform for users.

Will these updates be enough to curb the misuse of AI technology, or are we just at the beginning of a new ethical dilemma?
