The Netherlands has taken a significant step towards the future of autonomous vehicles by becoming the first European country to approve Tesla’s Full-Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised. This could mark an important milestone in the broader adoption of FSD across the EU.
In a statement, Dutch regulators RDW highlighted that driver assistance systems can contribute positively to road safety, as long as drivers remain vigilant and are continuously monitored by the system. The update is rolling out to a limited number of users, who must complete a tutorial and quiz before enabling self-driving features.
Tesla’s European headquarters in Amsterdam might have played a part in this decision, but it also reflects growing interest in autonomous technology among European regulators. However, the future of FSD remains uncertain, with ongoing investigations by American authorities casting doubt on its reliability.
Despite challenges, the approval in the Netherlands could set a precedent for other countries in Europe. As Tesla continues to refine its technology and push for wider adoption, it will be interesting to see how this unfolds in the coming months and years.
