Investors are pouring cash into AI research as the race heats up to create agents that can think and learn like humans. NeoCognition, a startup spun out of Ohio State University, has raised $40 million in seed funding to develop self-learning agents capable of rapid specialization.
Their approach is based on the idea that while current AI agents are generalists who only function correctly half the time, human intelligence lies in our ability to quickly adapt and become experts. By training these new agents to build their own world models, NeoCognition hopes to create truly versatile and reliable AI workers.
Their goal is to sell these self-learning systems to enterprises, offering a way for established SaaS companies to enhance their offerings or even create entirely new product lines with autonomous AI workers. With backing from Vista Equity Partners and other industry giants, the future looks promising – but will we trust robots to take on our jobs?
Yu Su, CEO of NeoCognition, says: 'Today’s agents are generalists. Every time you ask them to do a task, you take a leap of faith.' The hope is that with their system, this leap of faith could become a reliable step forward.
