X's AI Feeds Turn Twitter Into a Personal News Hub

AI curates custom timelines, but could it be biased? The future of personalized news is here.

X is transforming its platform with Grok-powered Custom Timelines, offering users over 75 specific topics like sports, technology and pop culture. These curated feeds can now be pinned to the home tab for easy access.

The feature works by reading every post and adding topic labels, creating personalized timelines that reflect your interests more accurately than traditional keyword searches could. However, with only Premium subscribers on iOS having access for now, there's a race to see when Android users will get their turn.

While the initial topics are broad, this update is part of X’s strategy to move away from declining features like X Communities. The Custom Timelines also offer a way to expand ad inventory, potentially boosting revenue after Musk's acquisition.

AI-driven personalization raises questions about bias and political neutrality. Grok, known for its truth-seeking mission, has been criticized for skewing right or amplifying misinformation. For now, X claims their new feature isn't leaning obviously one way or the other.
