20M+ Copilot Users and Counting

AI is here to stay, but are we really using it? Or just typing a lot?

Microsoft has reported that its AI tool, Copilot, now boasts over 20 million paid enterprise users. CEO Satya Nadella revealed during the company's quarterly earnings call that this user base is growing rapidly with significant engagement across M365 apps like Word, Excel and Outlook.

The numbers are impressive: companies such as Bayer, Johnson & Johnson, Mercedes, and Roche have more than 90,000 seats. The company also announced a deal with Accenture for over 740,000 seats, marking its largest Copilot win to date.

Engagement is high too, with Nadella stating that weekly usage levels are now on par with Outlook queries per user. He highlighted that Copilot's multi-model capabilities and the default Agent mode experience across Word, Excel and PowerPoint are driving this engagement. This suggests a shift from occasional use to daily habit.

Nadella also discussed Microsoft 365's support for Anthropic’s Claude as an example of its multiple model access. He emphasized that Copilot is not dependent on any one model like OpenAI, providing users with enhanced flexibility and power in their tasks.
