After years of investment in its search functionality, Reddit has seen a significant boost in usage. The company reported a 30% year-on-year increase in weekly searches, driven by an improved and AI-integrated search engine. CEO Steve Huffman highlighted that search is now one of the key drivers for both user acquisition and retention.
Investments in machine translation have also paid off, with over 30 languages supported, significantly expanding Reddit's global reach. The platform ended Q1 2026 with more than 493 million weekly active unique users (WAUq), a 23% increase from the previous year.
Meanwhile, Reddit’s revenue surpassed expectations by generating $663 million in Q1 2026. The company further optimized its operations, reporting only $1 million spent on capital expenditures. This financial success is bolstered by the platform's continued user growth and improved search features.
CEO Steve Huffman also revealed plans to reach a billion daily users worldwide and 100 million in the U.S., underscoring Reddit’s ambitions for global expansion. The social platform has become more than just a community hub; it now serves as a valuable resource for commerce, with around 40% of conversations being commercial in nature.
