Riding a properly fitting bike can mean the difference between endless comfort and endless pain. It’s crucial for preventing injuries and ensuring your ride is enjoyable.
Professional bike fit isn’t optional if you're serious about cycling or spending significant time in the saddle. An expert will tailor your bike to your body type, riding style and ambitions, ensuring a perfect fit.
Selecting the right frame size is key—most manufacturers use small, medium, large measurements, while some offer XXS through XXL options. Use height charts or visit a local shop to find the correct size. Stand over the bike with about 1 inch of clearance between your body and the top tube for best results.
Once you’ve got the frame sorted, focus on saddle height and position. Level your saddle with your hip bone and adjust so that your leg is straight at the bottom of the pedal stroke—your heel should stay in contact during a full pedal rotation.
The LeMond Method calculates saddle height using your inseam measurement: multiply by 0.883 to find the distance between the top of your saddle and the centre of your bottom bracket. Safety first; don’t exceed the maximum seat post insertion mark on modern bikes.
