Claude Code’s Limits and Leans

As AI evolves, Anthropic learns to adapt or be left behind.

San Francisco—Amid rapid growth and shifting user demands, Anthropic's product lead Cat Wu reveals that the future of Claude Code is less about long-term planning and more about model improvements. During San Francisco’s Code with Claude developer conference, users experienced a doubling of usage limits on Pro and Max plans after facing compute crunches.

With models moving from simple chat interfaces to complex multi-agent workflows, Anthropic has had to navigate user frustrations. The company tested solutions like stricter limits during peak hours and removing Claude Code from cheaper subscription plans.

Achieving runaway popularity, Anthropic has released a plethora of new features and surfaces for interacting with its models, including moving from the command line interface (CLI) to integrated development environments (IDEs).

Amodei’s keynote highlighted the challenge of managing user growth. ‘We tried to plan for 10x growth per year,’ he admitted, ‘but saw an 80x increase and thus faced compute issues.’

The rapid pace of innovation at Anthropic has been intense; however, it also reflects a chaotic yet adaptive approach to meeting the evolving needs of its users.
