Sony’s AI Camera Assistant: Still Not Perfect

An AI that struggles to outdo basic photography rules — is it time to trust our instincts?

After Sony faced criticism for its promotional demo of the AI Camera Assistant, they’ve issued a clarification. The feature, rather than editing photos, suggests tweaks based on lighting and subject depth. However, the examples provided still look unappealing.

In their video, Sony claims it can suggest the ‘most photogenic angle’ — but this is merely zooming in, not camera positioning. The images shared on X, while marginally better than previous ones, remain poor quality. One photo suggestion was overly saturated, another too processed, and a third looked like food had been Photoshopped into place.

For now, Sony advises users to ignore the AI’s suggestions — they are not yet reliable enough for everyday use. It’s a reminder that even cutting-edge technology may struggle with simple tasks when it comes to creativity and artistry.
