Anthropic Snaps Up Key AI Tool

An AI tool that made coding easier for giants like OpenAI has found a new home.

Anthropic, a leader in artificial intelligence, has acquired Stainless, a startup founded by Alex Rattray, formerly of Stripe. Stainless provides crucial software development kit (SDK) tools to tech titans such as OpenAI and Google.

The deal comes with a reported valuation exceeding $300 million. Stainless will cease hosting its SDKs, but customers can continue using their own versions. Founded in 2022, the company developed an automated system for generating SDKs across multiple languages, simplifying API integration for complex AI projects.

Rattray’s creation has been pivotal to Anthropic’s work, powering every official SDK since its inception. The acquisition consolidates Anthropic's market position and could potentially limit competition in this critical area of tech innovation.
