YouTube’s AI makeover: Ask YouTube and Gemini Omni join the fold

Google’s intelligent features could transform video creation, but is humanity ready for AI storytelling?

Google has unveiled a new wave of artificial intelligence (AI) tools to enhance YouTube's search experience, with ‘Ask YouTube’ allowing users to pose complex questions about videos. Users can now seek advice on teaching their children or find reviews of relaxing games.

The feature is currently available for premium desktop subscribers in the US and will be rolled out more widely in the future. Meanwhile, Google is expanding its likeness-detection tool for creators 18 and older, aiming to prevent deepfake misuse by AI-generated content.

Additionally, Gemini Omni, a new AI video model from Google, is being integrated into YouTube Shorts Remix and the YouTube Create app. This allows users to remix videos in ways that are more consistent with their intentions and storytelling goals.

The move towards greater integration of AI on the platform is met with both excitement and caution. While it offers unprecedented creative possibilities, there are also concerns about privacy and ethical use of such technology.
