Waymo has far outpaced its competitors with nearly 600 autonomous vehicles registered in Texas, according to new data from the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles.
The company, owned by Alphabet, leads the pack with 577 AVs, significantly more than rivals Avride (317), Nuro (47) and Tesla (42). Other companies like MOIA have smaller fleets but still contribute to the growing landscape of autonomous vehicles in Texas.
However, the size of these fleets does not directly translate to commercial success. Companies like Nuro and Zoox are not operating commercially, and active usage data is not publicly available. Waymo paused operations in some cities due to flood-related issues earlier this month.
Despite this, Waymo’s dominance in Texas is clear for now. The new law requiring companies to register their fleets provides the public with accurate insights into the current autonomous vehicle landscape, highlighting both growth and competition.
