Former tech executive Sriram Krishnan is stepping down from his role as the White House’s senior policy advisor on artificial intelligence, announcing his departure in an X post. He expressed gratitude for serving under President Trump, noting that without the leader's vision, America might not be leading in the AI race.
Krishnan's journey has been marked by a blend of private sector experience and government service. His last major project involved supporting the administration’s AI Action Plan, which prioritised data center construction over regulation. This period saw Trump sign several executive orders focused on AI, including efforts to challenge state-level regulations and promote federal oversight.
Reflecting on his time in office, Krishnan highlighted David Sacks as a key collaborator, praising him for his advocacy. Sacks, who previously served as the AI and crypto czar before stepping down earlier this year, continues to play an influential role in the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
Looking ahead, Krishnan plans to build institutions that tackle big challenges, both for America and its allies. He intends to start an outside institution that will still offer him a platform to influence AI policy, despite his departure from government service.
