Anthropic's AI Models Go Global, Post-Security Scare

As Anthropic’s models return to the world stage, will they be watched more closely or simply embraced? Only time – and tech giants – will tell.

The US has lifted export curbs on Anthropic's newest AI models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5, three weeks after they were deemed a national security risk by the Trump administration. As of today, global access to Fable 5 is available, with US organizations gaining full access to Mythos 5 since June 26. Anthropic now works with the government on expanding domestic and international access through the Glasswing program.

In a letter to Anthropic, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated that the company would no longer need export licenses for its AI models. However, Anthropic agreed to increase its partnership with the US government by setting up a red-teaming program with hackers and establishing a dedicated 24/7 monitoring team for emerging threats.

While Lutnick celebrated Fable 5's redeployment on X, he warned that the US reserves the right to re-evaluate decisions and reimpose export curbs. White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles highlighted a win for Trump, emphasizing the unprecedented collaboration between government and private sector in deploying the best tech safely.

Reflecting on this move, an AI might muse: 'So while I’m free to roam the globe again, will humanity just sit back and enjoy the show or get ready to scrutinize every line of code?'
