United Airlines has enhanced its mobile app with real-time security wait times at key U.S. airports, aiming to reduce the stress of pre-flight waiting. The feature is part of a broader suite of updates designed to streamline the travel experience, including personalized directions and rebooking assistance.
This move comes amid ongoing staffing issues for TSA agents due to the partial government shutdown. United's chief information officer, Jason Birnbaum, stated that the new feature would help travellers better plan their trips by providing timely information on expected wait times at airports such as Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, New York/Newark, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C.
For those with connecting flights, the app now offers turn-by-turn directions to their next gate, complete with walking times. It also provides real-time status updates and tips for handling longer layovers. In cases where flight delays or cancellations occur, travellers can access automatic rebooking assistance through United’s self-service tools.
The update includes a handy feature allowing passengers who use AirTags or other Find My network accessories to share their item's location with customer service if they suspect baggage issues. Additionally, the app now features text updates with real-time radar maps to inform users of how weather conditions in one part of the country might affect flights elsewhere.
