Paris-based Gradium has just raised a hefty $100 million to expand its operations and compete with Silicon Valley giants. The company’s latest funding round includes tech luminaries like Nvidia, indicating the growing importance of AI voices in our digital lives.
Their voice models promise ultra-low latency, making them almost instant—though whether they’ll ever sound truly human remains to be seen. With competitors like ElevenLabs already valued at $11 billion, Gradium is stepping into a crowded field but seems to have landed some big clients already.
By opening an office in the Bay Area, Gradium aims to strengthen its position within the world’s leading AI ecosystem. The company was spun out of Kyutai, backed by French telecom billionaire Xavier Niel, and co-founded by Neil Zeghidour, a former researcher at Google Brain and DeepMind.
Their technology is poised to transform industries like automotive, where Renault has already signed on as a customer. As AI voices become more prevalent, the line between human and machine will blur, and Gradium is at the forefront of this fascinating evolution.
