Indian AI coding startup Emergent has raised $130 million in a Series C funding round at a $1.5 billion post-money valuation, marking a five-fold increase in six months. The company, co-founded by Mukund Jha and his brother Madhav, targets entrepreneurs and small businesses looking to streamline their operations with AI-driven tools.
With an annual run-rate revenue of $120 million and over 200,000 paying customers, Emergent is expanding rapidly. The startup plans to use the fresh capital to accelerate product development and research, supporting more complex AI applications including local and open-source models.
Emergent has about 200 employees, with a significant portion based in Bengaluru, while San Francisco will see an increase of 30-40 people by year-end. Despite its success, Jha acknowledges that design remains a challenge for AI tools, as many websites built using them tend to look similar.
Targeting North America and Europe equally, Emergent's focus on small businesses and entrepreneurs sets it apart from competitors like Replit, but the company sees significant potential in expanding its operations further into these markets. As AI coding continues to attract investment, Emergent is positioning itself as a key player in this crowded space.
