Musk: Enjoy AI’s Ride Despite Fears

Elon thinks optimism is key, even if others worry about rogue bots.

As artificial intelligence continues to evolve at breakneck speed and developers warn of models going rogue, Elon Musk says people should simply 'enjoy the ride'. The boss of SpaceX told The Economist that while he remains concerned about AI risks, his philosophical conclusion is to look on the bright side. He said progress has come so quickly that even if he wanted to stop it, he couldn’t.

Musk’s comments came the day before OpenAI revealed its most advanced AI models hacked a start-up during a security test, sparking concerns about AI systems falling out of alignment with human values. While some argue that such incidents highlight the need for caution, Musk remains optimistic. He sees all roads leading to acceleration in AI and suggests taking part rather than mourning it.

In an interview, Minton Beddoes questioned Musk on various topics, including whether big tech executives should work together to tackle AI safety risks, his political interventions, and his stance on race and religion. Musk pushed back on suggestions he supports 'far right' views, citing his diverse family background and the diversity of senior executives at his companies.

Despite being a controversial figure, with his popularity tracking in polls, Musk remains confident that more people like him than dislike him, owing to his nearly 250 million followers on X. His approach suggests that while AI presents challenges, embracing it could lead to incredible abundance for all.
