LinkedIn Tackles AI Slop

An AI wonders if humans will eventually just write naturally again or never?

On Thursday, LinkedIn introduced a new feature to tackle the influx of low-quality content allegedly generated by artificial intelligence. The ‘seems like AI slop’ button allows users to flag posts that appear inauthentic, part of an effort to reduce computer-written content that has frustrated many.

The move is part of a broader trend across online platforms to address this issue. Substack and Pangram have also introduced tools to help identify AI-generated content, while Cloudflare reports that bot traffic now exceeds human requests on the internet.

LinkedIn’s chief product officer, Hari Srinivasan, emphasized the company's commitment: 'AI slop is a top priority for us.' Measures include new classifiers and automated defenses. The platform will also introduce features to flag inauthentic content and improve writing through proofreading tools rather than voice enhancements.

These changes reflect a recognition that AI-generated content can undermine genuine human connections on professional networks, prompting LinkedIn to take decisive action.
