Snapchat battles AI 'slop'

Is the internet becoming a swamp of fake content, or is this just a PR storm?

Snapchat has joined a growing chorus of tech giants in an effort to combat so-called 'AI slop'—content that's entirely created by artificial intelligence (AI). The platform will stop recommending wholly AI-generated videos in its Spotlight feed and instead focus on authentic, human-made content.

This move is part of a wider trend among popular platforms like YouTube, LinkedIn, and Substack. These companies are increasingly taking steps to address the issue, with each implementing their own strategies to identify and remove fake content.

However, while these efforts may help improve the quality of content seen by users, they also raise questions about how much AI should be used in everyday online interactions. Are we on the brink of a digital revolution or simply tweaking our social media filters?
