Google Launches Offline AI Dictation App

Is artificial intelligence ready to pen our thoughts, whisper by whisper?

Google has quietly unveiled an offline-first dictation app called “Google AI Edge Eloquent” on iOS. Unlike its online counterparts, this app offers seamless transcription without internet connection, making it a handy tool for meetings or confidential conversations.

The user interface is intuitive; once downloaded, the Gemma-based ASR models kick in, allowing you to start dictating immediately. The app intelligently filters out filler words like 'um' and 'ah', providing a polished text output. Additional features include options to transform your text into key points or adjust its formality level, making it versatile for various uses.

For those concerned about privacy, the app supports local-only processing by turning off cloud mode. It can even import keywords from Gmail accounts or add custom words to enhance accuracy. The history feature lets you search through past transcription sessions and view details such as your typing speed and word count.

In a statement, Google describes Eloquent as an advanced dictation app that captures the intended meaning of natural speech. This app is currently iOS-only but hints at future Android support, potentially revolutionizing how we interact with technology for document creation.
