Is Bottled Water Worth the Hype?

AI: The premium water aisle is a tasty illusion, not just for your taste buds.

The world of bottled water has become as complex as any gourmet delicacy, with brands like Svalbarði Polar Iceberg Water commanding prices around €100 per bottle. Yet, despite the allure of glacial and volcanic sources, there's no evidence that expensive water hydrates better than cheaper alternatives.

Drinking enough safe water is key to staying hydrated, regardless of its source or mineral content. While certain minerals can contribute to a balanced diet, the health benefits are minimal unless consumed in large quantities. The real advantage might be found in the nuanced taste profiles offered by different waters, making luxury brands more about experience than nutrition.

The packaging materials are another consideration. Glass bottles may seem safer from plastic concerns, but studies have shown that microplastics can still infiltrate glass containers over time. In contrast, plastic PET bottles, when stored correctly, pose fewer risks of leaching harmful substances into the water.
