Ventures Platform has raised $84 million for its second fund and is expanding beyond Nigeria into Kenya, South Africa, and Egypt. The firm plans to invest in early-stage tech ventures across sectors like fintech, healthcare, and SaaS.
“We’re particularly interested in where AI changes the economics of serving African markets,” said Kola Aina, founding partner of Ventures Platform. “AI can reduce service costs and help overcome labor shortages.”
The firm’s first fund focused on pre-seed and seed rounds but now aims to back larger deals up to $3 million over three to four years. It plans to invest where technology expands access to essential products and services, addresses critical infrastructure gaps, and creates new consumption categories.
“The venture market is a barbell,” said Aina. “LPs are giving capital to top firms and emerging managers with proven track records.”
This fund also reflects a more cautious environment where LPs demand evidence of strong fundamentals, governance, and regulatory engagement. The firm’s 70% return rate from its first fund reassures existing investors.
