ChatGPT Pro Ups the Ante to $100 a Month

As AI tools battle for supremacy, could higher prices mean fewer users?

OpenAI has introduced a new $100 per month ChatGPT Pro subscription. This tier offers five times the usage of its Codex coding tool compared to the $20 per month Plus plan, best suited for more intensive sessions.

The move comes as OpenAI seeks to outdo rivals like Anthropic and its popular Claude Code tool. The new Pro tier directly competes with Anthropic's 'Max' tier priced at the same $100 mark, offering a balanced option between the basic Plus plan and the top-tier version priced at $200.

OpenAI believes the Plus tier remains the best choice for everyday use, while the new Pro tier provides an easier upgrade path for those with higher usage needs. Meanwhile, the company offers a $8 per month Go tier and a free tier to cater to different user preferences.
