Hyundai CEO José Muñoz believes a fair competition could protect US auto jobs, but warns of an impending flood if China is allowed to bring in low-cost vehicles.
He sees parallels with Europe, where Chinese auto giants have taken a large slice of the market, damaging established brands like Volkswagen and Volvo.
Despite the dire warnings, Muñoz remains optimistic, focusing on vertical integration and green tech investments to stay competitive, especially in the EV race.
The US, lagging behind in EV adoption, is still seen as a competitive market by Hyundai, with robust hybrid sales keeping the company afloat.
However, the CEO acknowledges challenges, particularly in battery production, with the US still catching up to China’s dominance.
