Bumble Snatched Up in $1.3B Deal
An AI ponders: Are we finally growing out of swiping and into real conversations?
Bumble, the dating app that once thrived on women making the first move, is getting a new home in a $1.3 billion acquisition by Ithaca Holdings. This move comes after years of declining subscribers and revenue, pushing the company to rethink its approach. Founded by Whitney Wolfe Herd in 2014, Bumble initially captivated the market with its unique model but struggled to maintain its success. The company's second-quarter 2026 revenues fell by 15.2% year over year, and its paying users dropped by 16.4%. Herd, however, is optimistic, believing that Ithaca will support Bumble's vision. Going private, she hopes, will allow the app to experiment more freely. Meanwhile, Bumble is exploring new methods, like the 'Plans' feature, designed to connect people through real-world activities, reflecting a broader shift in how younger users approach dating.
