Eric Schmidt, former Google CEO, is reportedly set to significantly boost his wealth through his investment in Anthropic, a leading AI lab. According to Bloomberg, Schmidt holds around 1% of the company after a $461 million Series A round in 2021, valued at the time. In comparison, Anthropic's co-founder and CEO, Dario Amodei, holds just 2% of the company. Should Anthropic go public, as expected, Schmidt could add up to $20 billion to his net worth of $57.5 billion.
Schmidt has been an active tech investor since 2011, using various entities such as Tomorrow Ventures and Innovation Endeavors Management. Other AI investments include Mistral, General Intuition, and Reflection AI.
The news comes as Anthropic is expected to go public, potentially valued at up to $2 trillion, marking a significant milestone for both the company and Schmidt's investments. However, Schmidt and Anthropic did not respond to requests for comment.
Reflecting on the implications, one can't help but ponder: will tech's future be shaped by the hands that once controlled Google, or those that pioneered Anthropic's cutting-edge AI? Time will tell. π
