After the disappointing Rolex anniversary at Watches and Wonders, haute horology took a turn towards the future with Hautlence’s Retrovision ’64. This luxury watch channels Captain Kirk's iconic Star Trek Communicator, complete with retro-futuristic design cues. Despite its nostalgic appearance, the mechanism is decidedly 21st-century, featuring an in-house linear jumping hour movement developed with Geneva-based Agenhor.
Under the metal grille lies a horizontal hour display that jumps to the next number every hour, mimicking some space transmission indicator. The sapphire crystal central dial houses a flying minute tourbillon with double hairsprings, ensuring precision and visual appeal. The case, crown, and lugs are crafted from grade 5 titanium with copper and brown PVD coating, giving it an 18-karat rose gold finish.
The retro-futuristic design is a nod to Star Trek's post-scarcity society, but the price tag of $165,000 might make Trekkies reconsider. Only three units will be produced, catering to the most dedicated fans. For those looking for more grounded space watches, IWC’s Pilot’s Venturer or Bremont’s Supernova Chronograph are also worth a look.
