Uber has introduced a new feature in its app, allowing customers to return purchased items from their doorstep. The returns service is accessible through the Uber Eats app and comes at an additional courier fee, which varies based on time and distance.
The initiative aims to enhance user engagement by extending beyond its core services of ride-hailing and food delivery. Participating retailers include At Home, Best Buy, Target and others, with a minimum retail price threshold for eligible items set at $20.
Users can initiate the returns process from their order history within the app. For now, only select stores are on board, but Uber states that more partners may join in the future. The feature has been launched as part of a broader strategy to diversify services and meet customer needs beyond transportation and food.
Uber’s foray into retail returns follows other initiatives like Connect, which provided package delivery services between friends and family during the height of the pandemic, and Uber Direct, which offered contactless home deliveries. The 'Return a Package' feature in 2023 further expanded these offerings to include item returns.
