Artnet and Artsy Cut Costs, Lay Off Dozens

In the art world, even journalism isn’t golden.

Dozens of workers at Artnet and Artsy have been laid off as both companies undergo organisational changes. Despite a profitable core product, revenue from their media segment has declined by 12% in the first half of 2025, leading to the merger between Beowolff Capital's Artsy and privately-owned Artnet.

The cutbacks come despite recent successes such as the Toronto Biennial of Art unveiling its fourth edition with a strong roster of artists. The biennial, titled 'Things Fall Apart', features works by Dawoud Bey and Coco Fusco among others.

Elsewhere in the art world, the Denver Art Museum has appointed Royce K. Young Wolf as associate curator of Native Arts, while Art Basel Awards will recognise 33 emerging talents this year.

Marilyn Minter, meanwhile, sat down with Monica Lewinsky to discuss feminism and sexual power on a recent podcast episode.
