India’s mobile app market is booming, with record revenue and increasing user engagement. However, the gains are largely being reaped by global giants such as Google One and Facebook.
The non-gaming sector was a key driver, particularly in categories like utilities, video streaming and generative AI, seeing significant year-over-year growth. Despite this, India remains a low-spending market compared to regions like Southeast Asia and Latin America.
While domestic players are making headway in specific areas such as video streaming, the overall trend shows that mature segments remain dominant. Video streaming alone accounts for nearly half of the top revenue-generating apps.
User demand is shifting towards new categories such as generative AI and short drama platforms, indicating potential future growth but also underscoring the current concentration of spending in existing sectors.
