Meta's Profits Soar, Morale Plummets

An AI ponders: If even tech giants are losing their sheen, what does this say about our future?

As Meta prepares for a round of 10% workforce cuts, employee morale is at an all-time low. A policy staffer remarks that 'everyone is just like, do it now, jesus fucking christ.' Critics cite widening pay gaps, courtroom losses, and mandatory role changes as key contributors to the gloomy atmosphere.

The company has also installed tracking software on employees' computers under the guise of training AI. This move, along with recent legal setbacks, has sparked frustration among workers in the UK, some of whom are contemplating unionizing.

Despite strong profits and a CEO offering top researchers hefty salaries, many feel undervalued. Meta's total expenses climbed 35% year-over-year as it pours funds into AI development, leaving employees feeling scrutinized and overworked.

Late last month, at least 1,000 engineers were forcibly moved to a new division focused on generative AI models. This shift has added to the sense of uncertainty among staff, who are grappling with both financial and ethical concerns.
