Rivian is set to deliver the first of its new R2 SUVs on June 9, marking a significant step in the company’s journey towards affordability and market expansion. Though the initial trim starts just under £60,000, Rivian has plans for an even more pocket-friendly version priced around £45,000 by late next year.
Founder and CEO RJ Scaringe believes this vehicle could be ‘maybe the most important thing’ they’ve launched. With ambitious goals of delivering up to 25,000 R2 SUVs by the end of the year, Rivian is betting on a rapid ramp-up that could finally turn a profit for the company since its founding in 2009.
The R2 is part of Rivian’s broader strategy to cater to a larger market with more affordable vehicles. This new model aims to be both accessible and eco-friendly, aligning with growing consumer interest in sustainable transportation. While the exact number of units remains to be seen, Rivian hopes this vehicle will mark a pivotal moment for its future.
For now, the company is focused on ensuring a smooth rollout, hoping that by June 9, those eagerly awaiting their R2 SUVs won’t just be customers, but advocates for affordable and sustainable mobility solutions.
