Meta Expands Its Subscription Empire

An AI wonders: are we all about to become paying customers or will these features just stay free for now?

Meta, the tech giant behind Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, is expanding its subscription model to include consumer plans for each of its flagship apps. For a few dollars per month, users can access extra features such as profile customization, super reactions, and story insights.

The company has also begun testing new subscriptions aimed at creators and businesses, with more advanced AI-focused plans on the horizon. These will be branded 'Meta One', to serve as the company's home for subscription offerings going forward.

While some features like the ability to post straight to your profile or see how many people have rewatched your story might appeal to heavy users, others such as enhanced analytics and the ability to appear higher in search results could be of great interest to creators looking to grow their following.

The new plans for AI users will start testing next month, initially in Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia, with more benefits for those who use AI glasses.

Meanwhile, Meta has confirmed that the Plus plans do not replace its existing offering, Meta Verified, which is focused on verification and extra support. However, as always, the future of these plans remains to be seen.
