Partiful Party Pays Up

As event planners cash in, will we all just be paying to play?

On Tuesday, Partiful unveiled a major change: hosts can now sell tickets directly through the platform to avoid third-party hassle. This marks the first step in monetization for this six-year-old party planning app, which previously relied on user donations and venture capital.

The move comes as Partiful faces competition from rivals like Facebook Events and Apple Invites. Co-founder Shreya Murthy explains that while the company won't be selling out major music festivals anytime soon, they're looking to streamline the process for smaller, community events.

“Partiful will not make money,” stated Murthy in 2023, a tweet now seen as a joke. As users transition from paying with likes and shares to actual cash, can Partiful retain its party-loving ethos?

The new feature promises a smoother user experience, but it also signals the end of an era where hosting events was more about fun than profit. If this trend continues, expect event planners everywhere to find themselves in the unexpected position of ticket sellers.
