US President Donald Trump is set to host CEOs of major artificial intelligence companies at the White House next week, aiming to secure government stakes in their ventures. The goal, according to Trump, is a 'partnership with the American public', though he hasn’t specified which firms will be involved.
The meeting comes as AI’s popularity among Americans has nosedived. By discussing the benefits of technology and its potential economic impact, Trump hopes to shift public perception. He cites Intel as an example, where government investment led to a profit for taxpayers.
Among those under consideration are Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, SpaceX and Anthropic – with the latter two expected to go public soon. Recent meetings between AI executives and political figures suggest a warming of relations, including one between Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, and Senator Bernie Sanders.
Dario Amodei from Anthropic met White House officials recently, hinting at easing tensions after a legal spat with the US Department of Defense. The company has even praised Trump's Executive Order on AI, showing a willingness to engage with government policies.
