Snap has finally debuted its long-awaited consumer smart glasses, Specs, which come with a hefty price tag of $2,195 and are set to ship this fall. Despite being priced above most competitors, they offer features like eye-tracking for multiplayer games and an AI assistant that can provide information about objects you’re looking at.
The glasses are designed to run on two Snapdragon processors and have a battery life of up to four hours with a charging case extending it to 20 hours. However, their bulkiness makes them noticeably heavier than many other smart glasses currently available in the market.
With privacy features like an LED light when recording is active, Specs aim to compete against giants like Meta and Google in the AR eyewear space. But at such a high price point, they’re more likely to appeal to tech enthusiasts and developers rather than everyday consumers.
The launch of Specs comes amidst Snap’s ongoing struggles with profitability; the company has faced stock decline and recent layoffs. Only time will tell if this product can turn things around for Snap in an increasingly saturated market.
