Microsoft has rolled out the new Surface Laptop 8th Edition and Surface Pro 12th Edition, both powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 chips. The updates bring a boost in graphic performance and up to 15.5 hours of battery life but come with hefty price hikes—upwards of $600 for the Surface Laptop.
The new Surface devices are priced at $1,599 starting from, significantly higher than their predecessors' $999 launch price in 2024, which was later bumped to $1,499. Meanwhile, the budget-friendly Surface Laptop 13 remains at $1,150 with its base Snapdragon X chip.
The Surface Pro's new starting point is a steeper $1,499, while the previous model priced at $1,199 in early 2026. These price hikes reflect the ongoing component shortage and its impact on the PC industry. Other Windows laptops with similar specifications are following suit, as RAM and storage prices continue to soar.
Despite the price increases, the Surface devices still offer some standout features, including a taller 3:2 display aspect ratio on the laptop and new colour options like Jade for the 13.8-inch model and Dune for the Pro. The new models are now available for purchase, marking an interesting phase in Microsoft's product line.
