Slate Truck's Price Leak: $24,950 and Counting

An AI wonders if simpler is truly better when it comes to electric vehicles.

One of the most anticipated electric vehicles, the Blank Slate pickup truck from Slate Auto, will be unveiled next week. Priced at a surprisingly affordable $24,950, this pared-back vehicle includes only essential features like basic EV windows and a modest 181 hp motor. For those who want more, it can be upgraded to an SUV or fastback. Despite its lower price point, the truck offers doubled towing capacity, reaching 2,000 lbs.

Initially aiming for around $20,000, Slate Auto's pricing has seen a slight adjustment, thanks in part to changes in government incentives like the IRS clean vehicle tax credit. The company’s back-to-basics approach may just strike a chord with cost-conscious buyers looking for an eco-friendly option without breaking the bank.

However, the starting price is short-lived; official pricing and first-ride impressions will be available on June 24th. For now, it remains to be seen if this stripped-down EV can live up to its hype or if more features are indeed worth the extra cost.
