A class action lawsuit against Apple is set to proceed after being given the green light by the UK's Competition Appeal Tribunal. This case could entitle millions of iCloud users to share in a £3bn compensation pot, with Which? accusing Apple of ‘trapping’ users into its cloud service.
Consumer group Which? argues that since 2015, Apple has effectively locked users into its services, potentially overcharging them. The lawsuit aims to compensate UK residents who used iCloud between November 2018 and June 2026.
Apple has vehemently denied the claims, stating that no customer is required to use iCloud and that alternatives are available. The tech giant plans to appeal against the tribunal's decision, but for now, millions could be in line for a payout if the case is successful.
The compensation amount would be roughly £77 per user, which Which? CEO Anabel Hoult says is essential to make Apple 'pay for its abuse of power.' Anyone affected must decide by October 2026 whether to opt out or remain in the claim to receive any potential compensation if the case succeeds.
