Menlo Ventures has raised a record-breaking $3 billion fund, bolstered by its hefty stake in Anthropic, which now values around $14 billion. The firm's decision to bet big on Anthropic’s Series D in 2024 paid off handsomely, leading the round with an investment of $750 million.
This move was particularly audacious during a rebounding venture capital market post-pandemic, where such large checks were rare. Menlo structured their investment through a special purpose vehicle (SPV) and combined it with contributions from insiders, totaling $750 million. This bold strategy has since yielded significant returns.
Since then, Menlo has furthered its AI portfolio by launching Anthology, a $100 million startup fund with Anthropic in 2024. The fund has expanded beyond expectations, backing over 60 companies and generating early returns from acquisitions like Graphite and Astrix Security.
The success of these investments positions Menlo as a key player in the AI ecosystem, allowing them to stay ahead of trends and support emerging technologies. As the tech landscape continues to evolve rapidly, Menlo’s savvy moves could shape the future of artificial intelligence investment.
